Wainamics is a research and development services company that specializes in micro- fluidic devices for diagnostic and life science clients. In the ten years since our inception, Wainamics has built a client list that includes Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, startups, and government entities. We have developed successful devices for applications such as point of care diagnostics testing, including COVID molecular testing, blood cell counting, and biology experiments for NASA’s space flight missions.
We are now seeking a highly motivated individual with an interdisciplinary background in engineering and life-science principles, who thrives in a dynamic, start-up environment. This individual will be responsible for mechanical and bio-engineering design of consumables, and system testing.
Job Description:
This position will work on-site and report directly to the R&D Director, while interfacing closely with the internal team and customers. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design microfluidics consumables for customer projects.
- Interact with and engage customers for product development and research purposes; provide feedback to develop requirements.
- Designing experiments involving biology, plastic microfluidic cartridges and instrumentation to improve system performance. In addition, manifold design work, rapid prototyping work, and running the experiments.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute activity in support of project and team goals.
- Support Project Documentation, including risk management etc.
- Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Necessary Qualifications:
- B.S or M.S. Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, with minimally 2 years’ experience in mechanical design.
- Highly experiences in Solidworks design and rapid prototyping.
- Microfluidic or Lab-on-a-Chip product development experience preferred.
- System integration, integration protocol testing, troubleshooting integrated fluidics issues.
- Excellent hands-on ability. Candidates with example project portfolios in designing/building devices are preferred.
- Design for plastic injection molding preferred. Experience with injection molding, machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, and bonding (ie. glue dispense, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, and heat staking) would be preferred.
- Experience of translating customer needs into product requirements and ensuring product designs meet customer needs.
- Experience working with a team in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to within the organization, and with customers.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills, scientific experimental design, and data analytic skills.
- Familiarity with Design Controls and FDA/ISO13485 quality regulations preferred.
- US work eligibility / US citizenship or permanent residency status required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering Experience in integrating Immunoassays, Molecular Assays.
- Product development process training for commercial product development.
- Experience in lab automation equipment, such as motion control, fluidic pumps, and valves preferred.
- Knowledge of CFD principles.
