Microfluidic Cartridge Development: Key Partner Strategies
November 3, 2025
Wainamics is pleased to announce our collaboration with Dr. James Henriksen and The Two Frontiers Project, highlighting the dual-use capabilities of our NASA SBIR–developed Microbial Bioculture (MBC) system.
This collaboration showcases how space-developed biotechnology can be translated into powerful Earth-based solutions. The Wainamics MBC system enables portable microbial culture for in-field growth, monitoring, storage, and ambient-temperature shipment, eliminating the need for cryopreservation. Designed for resilience and flexibility, the system supports microbial work in remote, resource-limited environments—whether in space or here on Earth.
The Two Frontiers Project is doing phenomenal work at the intersection of science, art, and environmental stewardship, particularly in pollutant remediation and coral restoration. Their innovative approach demonstrates how ancient microbes can help address some of today’s most pressing ecological challenges. Read more about their work here:

By supporting the safe transport and deployment of living microbial cultures without reliance on cold-chain logistics, the Wainamics MBC system has the potential to accelerate environmental restoration efforts and expand access to biological tools where they are needed most.
It is our hope that this technology can play a pivotal role in safeguarding our planet’s ecosystems, empowering researchers, conservationists, and innovators to deploy life-saving microbes wherever the mission demands.
